Mr. Spooner
Dear Sir:
As I have a ticket for the entire
course of Fowler’s Phrenological lectures, one of
which is to night, I must most respectfully decline
your invitations with many thanks for your kindess.
In relation to other matters I
would say, that towards you I feel perfectly friendly, as I do to all my
acquaintances in Boston. I meet them all in the same spirit. Am glad to see them whenever they happen in
my way, but never give much time or attention to any one. This is incidental to my life as a
medium. My circle of
friends are constantly changing, and as my time is very precious, those
who know me most intimately, know how to understand me, and expect little of me
beyond my public labors. Yours with the utmost good will.
