Lysander Spooner Esq

Dear Sir,

I have an Article written upon the “Unknowable [?]” of Herbert Spencer, which I desire to have published in some suitable magazine. I have thought the comparatively new one published in Boston, the name of which I cannot now recall, but the one in which some of your Articles on the Currency have appeared, may be the right one for my purpose.

My paper is an attempt to show that the position affirmed [?] by Mr. Spencer upon the subject of the “Unknowable” is untenable; and of course it is somewhat metaphysical, though designed to avoid as much as possible the metaphysical aspects of the question in controversy. I should prefer, if possible, to have it appear in some periodical that pays for its contribution. Will you advise me on the subject? Perhaps the “North American [?]” would be the best to publish in, if they would receive it.

If it would not be too much trouble for you, I would like to send my manuscript to you, have you read it first, and afterwards deliver it to the editor or publisher of the magazine, if you shall think it worthy of publication, with instruction that if not accepted, the MS be returned. Please send me a line in answer to this in the enclosed envelope.

Mrs. Brackett is still in Washington visiting her brother. But I expect her soon.

                                      Yours Very Sincerely,

                                      Mr. Brackett
